Speech-to-text technology has improved immensely in the past decade. Many doctors now use medical dictation software that instantly transcribes spoken words directly into the EMR with almost perfect accuracy. But medical diction is complex, and there are times you need to teach your medical dictation software new vocabulary.
This article explains how to update your dictation vocabulary in Mobius Conveyor.

As with other leading medical dictation software, Conveyor understands medical terminology out of the box. However, you may occasionally encounter words that the software doesn’t spell correctly the first time.
Teach Conveyor new medical vocabulary in 30 seconds
Follow these simple steps if you need to teach Mobius Conveyor new medical vocabulary.
Step 1: Go to Vocabulary
Swipe left from the Live screen until you see “Vocabulary.” You can also add vocabulary from Settings –> Speech Tools –> Custom Vocabulary.
Step 2: Write your new vocab
Tap the “Add vocab” button or “Add” in the upper right-hand corner. Then type the term you want to add in the highlighted space that says “Written Form.”
Step 3: Try it out
Once you’ve entered the new vocabulary, tap the box below “Try It Out” and speak the new term in a sentence.
If Conveyor got it right, you’re done!
If the software still doesn’t understand your dictation, try Step 4.
Step 4 (optional): Add phonetics
If you still have trouble, tap “Still having trouble?” and write the vocab in phonetic form. You don’t need to be a linguist to do this. Simply type the word as you would say it, with spaces between each syllable.

How to delete or edit vocabulary
To delete or edit created vocabulary, go to Settings –> Speech Tools –> Custom Vocabulary and scroll down or search for the entry.
Open the vocabulary and make your edits or scroll to the bottom and tap “Delete.” You can also swipe left over any stored vocabulary to see the red “Delete” button.
An example of adding new medical vocabulary
Imagine you often see patients with Parkinson’s disease and want to dictate the term “bradykinesia” to indicate extreme slowness of movements and reflexes. Sometimes Conveyor gets it right, but other times it doesn’t, and you get something like “Braddy kinesia.”
Follow the steps above to add new vocab. Type “Bradykinesia” as the written form, then tap the box below “Try it out” and speak an example sentence.
You say, “The patient presented with bradykinesia,” but you still get the following dictation: “The patient presented with Braddy kinesia.”
You would then follow Step 4 and add phonetic spelling: “bray di kine ease ee uh.” Conveyor will now understand this vocabulary every time.
